Love Sonnet #6-4-3

Here's my submission to A Prairie Home Companion's upcoming love sonnet contest in mid-April. Wish me luck!

The sun sets bright over the outfield wall
Feel the heavy bat in my hands, as I drip
Here comes the pitchers’ first offering…“ball”
In his windup again, He loosens his grip.
Sailing through the air, the white orb gains steam
I think I saw it pass, but to no avail
I swung with all my might, that ball did scream
It’s in the catcher’s mitt, I wanted to wail!
The final delivery is sent with pride
I can see the seams of that spinning ball
As it nears the plate, I am in full stride
I swing with mite; it’s over the fielder tall!
Whoever said I’m too old to go home,
They should see that ball sail, and watch me roam!

Recommendations

Whoever said that there are no good places to eat at anymore didn't know what they were talking about! This weekend I ate at two great spots - Betsy's Back Porch Coffee in Minneapolis and Cafe Maude's in Richfield. I went with Dan and Heidi yesterday afternoon for a much needed break from my homework to Betsy's. I had their grilled cheese panini with sprouts and tomato - it was amazing! And today for lunch, I went back to Cafe Maude (where I went once for breakfast at Lisa's and Gretchen's recommendation), and this time I had lunch instead of breakfast. I enjoyed immensely their hamburger with blue cheese, and fries with cheese sauce - again, another amazing meal! So, if you are looking for somewhere to go for good food, good atmosphere, and maybe even good music (both have live music available), then be sure to check out these places.

Dan In Real Life

Last night, Jamie and Gretchen, Eric, Dan, and I watched the movie, "Dan In Real Life." Eric and Dan had already seen the movie once, but Gretchen, Jamie, and I were seeing it for the first time. Those of you that know me and my movie tastes well, know that I enjoy a good movie about relationships. This movie lived up to all my expectations, and in my opinion is a must-see (especially the ending scenes)! Steve Carell did a great job in exhibiting his character's awkwardness and sense of humor - "put it on my tab!"

Saturday, Saturday!

I just had a great time of hanging with Dan and Heather! We went to the Fitzgerald Theater in St. Paul to hear Garrison Keillor's Prairie Home Companion radio show. It was the annual joke show. There were a few really funny jokes, and the music of the Guy's All-Star Shoe Band was awesome! We went to Cafe Latte afterwards for some great grub, some awesome dessert, and some enjoyable conversation. Thanks Dan and Heather for a really fun night!

Winter Blahs

Well, after having been able to spend a week in Mississippi aiding in the rebuilding projects, I was indeed spoiled by the nice weather there. Highs were in the 60's each day - in stark contrast to our chilly weather here in Minnesota. I am definitely struggling with this cold stretch, wanting it to be spring weather instead. I am very tired of the cold, the snow, and the usually gray conditions...hopefully it warms up/brightens up soon.
